Routine Maintenance for Your Ram 2500 with Gas Engine
The Ram 2500 is available in both gasoline and diesel engine options. Each of these engine types requires different intervals and maintenance. If your Ram 2500 has a gasoline engine, the routine maintenance you should follow is as follows:
Every 8,000 Miles or 1 year
- An oil change will probably be the first service you are going to need for your Ram 2500. For gasoline engines, the change intervals should be every 8,000 miles.
- Your Ram 2500 is equipped with an engine oil change indicator system that warns you once it’s time to change your engine oil. When it’s time for an oil change, visit an authorized service center. They will reset the oil change indicator message after completing the scheduled change.
Every 20,000 Miles or 1 year
For every maintenance appointment, you need to rotate the tires and inspect the CV/Universal joints. Furthermore, once you reach 20,000 miles, the service should include additional inspections, which are listed below:
- Inspect front suspension and tie rod ends and replace them if necessary
- Inspect the front and rear axle surfaces
- Inspect the brake linings and replace them as necessary
Every 30,000 Miles, or 3 years
- At this interval, the technicians should inspect the transfer case fluid and replace the engine air cleaner filter.
Every 100,000 Miles, or 10 years
- At 100,000 miles, you should inspect and replace the PCV valve if necessary. You should also replace the spark plugs.
Every 150,000 miles, or 10 years
- Flush and replace the engine coolant at 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Following these intervals and the required procedures will ensure not only the proper performance but also give you peace of mind on every journey.
Routine Maintenance for Diesel Engines
If your Ram 2500 works with a diesel engine, make sure you keep up with the next intervals for routine maintenance:
Every 7,500 miles or 6 months
- Once you’ve driven 7,500 miles, you should check the diesel exhaust fluid and refill if necessary. This maintenance interval also includes rotating the tires, inspecting the front end, and lubricating and inspecting the CV/Universal joints.
Every 15,000 miles or 12 months
- At this interval, or 500 hours of engine run time, you should change your engine’s oil.
Every 30,000 miles or 2 years
- Check all the procedures established for 15,000 miles, as well as inspect the brake linings, parking brake, and drive belt and make all the adjustments and replacements necessary.
Every 60,000 miles or 4 years
This is an important routine maintenance milestone and should follow all the previous services, adding the following:
- Inspect and change the transfer case fluid (4×4 trucks only)
- Change automatic transmission fluid (AS69RC transmission only)
- Change automatic transmission fluid and sump filter (AS69RC transmission only)
Every 150,000 miles or 10 years
- Once you’ve reached this interval, you will need to replace the Crankcase Ventilation Filter (CCV) and flush and replace the engine coolant.
For any of these services, we recommend relying on a Ram-authorized service center with certified and experienced technicians to make sure your Ram is in the best hands.
