PERFORMANCE & HANDLING Available in SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Classic and SRT8 392 trim levels, the 2012 Challenger comes powered by either a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) that generates 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with dual VVT and Fuel Saver Technology that puts out 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, or a 392 CID (6.4-liter) HEMI V8 engine with VVT and Fuel Saver Technology that pumps out 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Notably, the 392 HEMI comes with an orange-painted cylinder block with black valve covers and is the highest naturally aspirated specific-output engine ever offered in the long history of Dodge. Transmission choices include a 5-speed AutoStick automatic transmission with MDS and a TREMEC 6-speed manual transmission. The Challenger offers an abundance of cargo space for your everyday life, too, thanks to a voluminous trunk that comes in at a massive 16.2 cubic feet, well above what most vehicles in this segment have at their disposal. Fuel economy varies, but can range anywhere from 14 MPG city/23 MPG highway (392 HEMI), to 16 MPG city/25 MPG highway (5.7L V8), or an efficient 18 MPG city /27 MPG highway (3.6L V6). |
